King Single Beds in Auckland — the frame is wider than you think.
A king single mattress is one size. The bed around it is another. On one of our frames the gap is 11 cm — and in a child's room or a narrow spare room, 11 cm decides whether the door still opens.
Outer size and mattress size are not the same number.
The short answer
Our Black Alice king single publishes both. The frame is 213 cm long and 119 cm wide. The space inside it, where the mattress goes, is 206 cm by 108 cm. So the bed takes 11 cm more width and 7 cm more length than the mattress you're picturing.
Almost no retailer publishes both numbers. When you plan a child's room or a narrow spare room from the mattress size, you're planning from the wrong figure — and king single rooms are usually the tightest rooms in the house. These beds sit inside the bed shop in Auckland at Unit 12/46 Hobill Avenue, Wiri.
Where it bites. A bed against one wall with a door or wardrobe opening beside it. Eleven centimetres is roughly the width of your hand — enough to stop a door clearing the bed frame.

Why king single rather than single
A king single is longer and wider than a standard single. That extra length is the reason most parents end up buying one — a child who fits a single at eight will not fit it at fifteen, and the bed gets replaced years earlier than it needed to be.
It's also the size that works for a tall guest in a spare room without taking a double's footprint. If the room can take the width, king single is usually the better long-term buy.

Black Alice — painted timber
Alice is a clean-styled range that you can match across beds, tallboys and dressers to finish a bedroom in one look. It comes in black, white and stained.
One thing we say plainly because the listing does: these beds are painted timber and may have some knots and imperfections. That's the nature of the material, and at $449 it's the trade that makes the price work.

Arizona — upholstered fabric
The Arizona has a linen-look upholstered finish with a button-tufted headboard, built on a metal frame with pinewood slats and timber legs. It's the softer option if the bed is against a wall someone leans on to read.
Fabric needs a little care: spot clean with a mild detergent, avoid over-wetting, keep it out of direct sunlight and extreme heat, and never drag it across the floor.

Denver — the gas-lift base
The Denver is a base rather than a bed: it holds the mattress directly, has no headboard, and lifts on gas struts so the space underneath becomes storage. At 115 cm wide and 203 cm deep it's the most space-efficient king single option we carry.
In a child's room that storage is genuinely useful — it swallows out-of-season clothing and spare bedding that would otherwise need a wardrobe. Budget for a headboard separately, or plan to wall-mount one.
Check the clearance beside the bed
King single rooms are usually the tightest in the house, and the bed almost always sits against a wall. Measure the gap between where the frame will end and whatever is next to it — a wardrobe door, a bedroom door, a desk.
Use the frame width from the listing, not the mattress width. On the Black Alice that's 119 cm, not 108. The difference is about a hand's width, which is exactly the margin a door needs.

What our team tells people on the floor.
1 · Plan from the frame width
The Black Alice is 119 cm wide but holds a 108 cm mattress. Use the bigger number.
2 · Buy for fifteen, not eight
Children outgrow singles fast. King single is the size that lasts through the teenage years.
3 · Check the door swing
King single rooms are tight. Make sure a wardrobe or bedroom door still clears the frame.
4 · Storage under, not around
In a small room a gas-lift base gives you a wardrobe's worth of space you already own.
5 · Timber shows its character
Painted timber may carry knots and small imperfections. That's the material, not a fault.
6 · Fabric near a window fades
Upholstered frames don't like direct sunlight. Think about where the bed will actually sit.

More than the mattress. Our Black Alice frame is 213 cm long and 119 cm wide, while the mattress space inside it is 206 by 108 cm. Plan the room from the frame figure.
Usually, if the room takes the width. It's longer and wider, so a child won't outgrow it in their teens and a tall guest will actually fit.
