Everything else in a dining space arranges itself around the table, so that is where to start. Our kitchen furniture shop in Auckland is part of the widerfurniture shop in Aucklandat Unit 12/46 Hobill Avenue, Wiri.
The range spans a long way. A Radius Round is 1 metre across. A Kontur is 200 × 100 cm. And the Kontur extension table runs from 200 cm out to 240 cm when you have people over, which is the practical answer for a room that has to work on both a Tuesday and at Christmas.
Two numbers to bring.The clear width of the room, and the wall-to-wall length. Chairs need space to pull out, so the table can never fill the floor.
Round tables tend to work better in narrow open-plan kitchens, because there are no corners to walk into on the way past.

Dining Table
The table sets the size of the whole room, so start there. Our range runs to 51 tables, from a 100 cm round up to a 200 × 100 cm Kontur, plus an extension table that reaches 240 cm when you have people over. Dining Chairs
Chairs decide whether anyone wants to stay at the table after the meal. Sit on them before you buy, and check two things: the seat depth, and whether the back actually supports you. Fabric is comfortable to sit on, while timber and wipeable vinyl are far easier with toddlers in the house. Ask the team how many chairs your table length will take. See our dining chairs.

Dining Set
A dining set matches the table and chairs in one purchase, and it usually costs less than buying them apart. Ours include the Compacte Round 1M at $749, the Kapiti 1.5 with six chairs at $1,049, the Spring 1800 seven piece at $1,499 and the Woodside 1.8 seven piece at $1,649. Bar Stools
Bar stools are the piece people most often get the height wrong on. Measure from the floor to the underside of your bench, not the benchtop, and bring that number in — the gap between seat and bench is what decides whether anyone actually uses them. Bench Seats
A bench gets more people around the same table, because you are not limited by chair widths. It also pushes right under the table when nobody is using it, which frees up floor space in a narrow kitchen. Bars and Wine Cabinets
A bar or wine cabinet keeps bottles and glassware together instead of spread across three cupboards. It usually works better in the corner of an open-plan living area than in the kitchen itself, where bench space is already under pressure. 1 · Leave room for chairs to pull out
The table cannot fill the floor. Chairs need space behind them, and someone has to walk past while people are seated.
2 · Round beats rectangular in narrow rooms
No corners to catch a hip on the way to the kitchen, and everyone at the table can see each other.
3 · Measure the bench, not the benchtop
For bar stools, the number that matters is floor to the underside of the bench. Get it wrong and nobody uses them.
4 · Buy the chairs you will actually sit on
Sit down properly in the showroom. Seat depth and back support are what decide whether people linger after dinner.
5 · Consider an extension table
If the room has to work for two on a Tuesday and eight at Christmas, an extending table saves you choosing.
6 · Think about the floor underneath
Chairs get dragged several times a day. On timber or vinyl floors, felt pads are worth doing on day one.
