Height matters more
than width.
The short answer Pick a unit wider than your TV, then check the height against where you actually sit. Our range runs 45 cm to 65 cm tall — a 20 cm spread that changes the whole viewing angle. Sofa seat heights sit around 42–50 cm, so a 65 cm unit puts the screen noticeably higher than a 45 cm one.
Everyone measures the wall. Almost nobody measures the height, and it is the number you notice every evening. These TV units are part of the wider furniture shop in Auckland at Unit 12/46 Hobill Avenue, Wiri.
The Akita stands 45 cm and is only 35 cm deep. The Elmont and Settler cabinets are 65 cm tall and 49–54 cm deep. Same job, very different rooms.

What width TV unit do I need?
Wider than the TV. Measure your television's actual width in centimetres, not the screen size in inches — a "65 inch" TV is around 145 cm wide, and the inches refer to the diagonal. A unit narrower than the TV looks unbalanced and gives the feet nowhere safe to sit.
Our range runs from a 105 cm Salisbury corner up to a 200 cm Salisbury entertainment unit, with most of the range clustered between 160 cm and 180 cm. If your TV is 145 cm wide, look at 160 cm and up.

How high should a TV unit be?
Low enough that you are not looking up. Most sofa seats sit somewhere around 42–50 cm off the floor, and the middle of the screen ideally lands near eye level when you are seated.
Our lowest is the Akita at 45 cm, which suits wall-mounted or large screens where the unit is mainly storage. Our tallest are the Elmont and Settler cabinets at 65 cm, which suit smaller TVs, higher seating, or rooms where you want more cupboard space underneath. The Salisbury range sits in the middle at 50 cm.

Depth is the number people forget
In a narrow lounge, depth decides how much walking space you have left. Our slimmest is the Akita at 35 cm deep. Our deepest is the Elmont at 54 cm. That 19 cm difference is roughly the width of a laptop, and in a townhouse lounge it is the difference between a comfortable walkway and turning sideways.
Deeper units hold more, so the trade is real. If the room is tight, start at the shallow end and work up.

Corner TV units
A corner unit uses space that would otherwise sit empty, which is why it works so well in square rooms where no wall is quite right for the TV. We list the Salisbury Corner at 105 cm and the Elmont Corner at 132 cm wide and 54 cm deep, from $599.
One thing to check: a corner unit needs the TV angled into the room, so make sure your seating actually faces that corner rather than fighting it.

Storage, cables and the pile of remotes
A TV unit is mostly storage that happens to hold a television. Think about what actually needs to live in it: a soundbar, a console, controllers, remotes and the cables joining them. Open shelving suits gear that needs airflow or a line of sight for a remote. Closed doors hide the mess but can block infrared signals.

1 · Measure the TV, not the box it came in
Width in centimetres, edge to edge. Screen inches are diagonal and will mislead you every time.
2 · Sit down before you decide on height
Check where your eye line lands from the sofa. Our range spans 45 cm to 65 cm, and you will notice it nightly.
3 · Check the depth against the walkway
35 cm to 54 cm across the range. In a narrow lounge that difference is the walkway.
4 · Count what goes inside
Soundbar, console, controllers, cables. Open shelves for gear that needs airflow, doors for the rest.
5 · Think about the power point
A deep unit against the wall can trap the plug. Check where the socket sits before you commit.
